Starting with PrestaShop version 1.7, you can customize the redirection of your product pages, which you deactivate if a visitor arrives on them via an old link or search engine ranking. This option is crucial for all businesses, even if your products are not temporary. It's important to define the redirection of these products when you deactivate them, as this is an essential aspect in terms of SEO.
You may not know it, but deleting products on PrestaShop can be very problematic. Every time someone visits the old URL of your product page, they'll encounter a 404 error, which means the page can't be found, and that's not a good thing.
It is therefore essential to redirect your products correctly when you deactivate them from your sales catalog. The management of a product catalog is the most important task for any online merchant, since the entire activity of the store stems from it.
By default, PrestaShop sets the redirection of a deactivated product to an error indicating that the page is not found, as if you had simply deleted the product, which is the worst thing to do in terms of SEO.
Here you can define the behavior that the page should have when you've deactivated the product, i.e. permanent or temporary redirection to the default category, which will yield better SEO results by informing search engines about the handling of this redirection and also economic results, as you'll be offering alternative products on the same theme as the product initially desired by the visitor.
It's a win-win situation.
As soon as you install the module, you'll be able to choose the best redirection for your business. Let's face it, not everyone sells the same thing on PrestaShop, so it's important to adapt to all solutions.
For example, you might prefer a permanent redirect to the main category of your products when you deactivate them if your business involves one-off products, or if you never put a product back online after deactivating it.
You may also prefer a temporary redirect if this is useful for your business. This allows search engines to react more quickly when you reactivate the product listing.
There's nothing more frustrating for a visitor than to come across an error page that offers no alternative to their search. That's where this module comes into its own. It activates a redirect to the default category when your customers visit a product page you've deactivated. So they can find an alternative to their initial need and explore other products they might not have thought of.
When installing one of our modules, we strictly follow the native procedures recommended by PrestaShop. All you have to do is download the module archive, go to your PrestaShop management space, and upload the archive to the modules menu. After a short processing time, you can easily configure it, using the integrated module guides to help you every step of the way.
PrestaShop users! Just a word of advice to all of you: never delete a product from your product catalog. It's very important to set up a redirection policy for each product to ensure a good user experience for your customers and to help search engines better understand your site. Happy selling!
You probably already know that this module doesn't affect PrestaShop functionality at all, so you can always choose the most appropriate redirection for each product. It can be useful to redirect a product to a perfect alternative, for example, when a product is no longer available from your supplier, but is replaced by a new one. In this case, it's best to create a new product listing, deactivate the original listing and redirect to the new listing. I strongly advise against modifying the old product sheet to adapt it to the new product, as this could cause confusion among your customers, and search engines may not immediately understand the change.
